What we aim to learn about the Earth's Features and Resources:

EROSION & WEATHERING:
  1. Identify the processes of physical weathering that break down rocks at Earth's surface
  2. Distinguish between weathering and erosion
  3. Investigate local landforms and how wind, water, or ice have shaped and reshaped them
INTERACTION OF WATER WITH EARTH MATERIALS:
  1. Conduct investigations and use observational data to describe how water moves rocks and soils
  2. Examine materials that compose soil and describe these on the basis of their properties
SOILS:
  1. Compare soil samples by sorting them according to properties
  2. Conduct simple tests to identify the three basic components of soil
  3. Test soils and compare/ contrast properties
  4. Explain and give examples of ways in which soil is formed
ROCKS AND MINERALS:
  1. Describe, compare, and sort rocks, soils, and minerals by similar or different physical properties
  2. Use the physical properties of hardness, color, luster, and reaction to vinegar, to identify common minerals
  3. Identify the importance of minerals, ores, and fossil fuels as Earth's resources on the basis of their properties
USES OF EARTH'S MATERIALS:
  1. Identify different uses of Earth's materials based on their properties
  2. Identify Earth's materials that are used as fuel, and other ways that humans use these materials to meet needs and wants
  3. Determine and support explanations of the uses of Earth's materials

Essential Questions:
  1. How do scientists learn/ know?
  2. Why is it important to learn about how our earth changes?
  3. Will the physical earth we live in today be the same earth we live in _ years?
